SPECIAL NOTES FROM THE SVL WORKSHOP:
1. We have confirmation from the MHSAA, that we have correctly interpreted the play where the kicker stepped on the end line and returned to the field of play and punted the ball. R DOES HAVE THE OPTION TO HAVE THAT PENALTY ENFORCED FROM THE SUCCEEDING SPOT OR TAKE THE SAFETY.
2. Mechanics on ball spotting for plays that lose yardage. Plays relatively close to the LOS (approx 5 yds) the Wing official is responsible for forward progress on his half of the field. For plays with large yardage losses, the R will most likely have the best spot. example: QB sacks of 12 to 15 yards, the R will have the best spot. The Referee and the 2 LOS officials need to work together to get the best spot.
3 SWINGING GATE: If the play is on 4th down or the try, as long as he has an eligible number and is on the end of the line it is a LEGAL PLAY.
However on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down if the numbering exception is being used then the snapper is NEVER eligible.
